Champion of Liberty or the Welfare of the People?  (Part One)

Last Wednesday, Bryant Wolfin and I held a forum at the Catalyst Center in Perryville. I thought it was a good debate – not because of brilliant oratory but because it made clear areas where we agree and where we differ.  Here’s my completely unbiased opinion of the debate.  (You can watch it in its entirety on my Facebook page.)

At the forum Mr. Wolfin, the incumbent in our district, said he wants to go back to Jeff City as our state representative to be “a champion for liberty.” For him, that means small government. He believes the current minimum wage is too high.  He said he believes we’ve all grown too comfortable with big government. 

I said I want to go to Jeff City because, as our state motto proclaims, “the welfare of the people is the supreme law.”  I want to work in the best interests of the people of Perry and Ste. Genevieve counties. read more

Missing the Target

     The Mineral Area Activities Association (MAAA) is not generally politically active. It is a high school athletic and academic conference for schools in the Mineral Area, including the Ste. Genevieve school district and Valle Catholic schools.  It is governed by the Missouri State High School Activities Association and mainly coordinates conference-wide activities like basketball tournaments and scholar bowls.  read more

Let the Forums Begin

There were seven Lincoln-Douglas debates in 1858. Each debate lasted about three hours.

My opponent, Bryant Wolfin, and I have agreed on far fewer debates and they will be much shorter.

We’re calling them forums. The first will be on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, starting at 6:30 at the Catalyst Center in Perryville. The address is 508 N. Main St. 

The second one is on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center, also at 6:30 pm. I don’t know for sure which building as yet, but will let you know.   read more
